For the first time in history, the annual revenue of games for Android platforms will be more than the revenue from games for the App Store.

According to Newzoo, mobile games will earn a total of $68.5 billion by the end of this year. This is 26.7% more than a year earlier, in 2018.

Of the announced amount, $33.5 billion (or 48.9%) will be on iOS. Another $24.5 billion (or 35.8%) is the share of Google Play. The remaining $10.5 billion (or 15.3%) will be earned by third-party Android stores.

Apple still surpasses Google Play in terms of gaming revenue. However, new figures say that 51% of the money from mobile games comes from Android products.

According to GamesIndustry, last year the share of Android in mobile gaming revenue was 49%, and in 2017 — 48%.

Newzoo believes that we are now talking about a turning point for the mobile market. According to analysts, the trend will only continue in the future and Apple will lose its market share. By 2022, iOS will have 44% of the market.

Important: the main growth will continue to occur not at the expense of Google Play, but thanks to the strengthening of third-party markets.
