Epic Games turns into a rich kind uncle. The company has changed the terms of payments in its asset store. Instead of the standard 70%, it now pays 88% to content authors from each purchase.

The story was not limited to this. The new rule is retroactive. Epic Games has stated that it will pay developers the difference for each transaction made within the framework of the store since 2014.

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney explains such generosity by two factors. The growth of the Unreal Engine Marketplace itself and, of course, the commercial performance of Fortnite.

Epic Games generally distributes its assets for free
In addition to the pleasant announcement, the company shared several figures concerning both the audience of the engine and its content store.

  • At the beginning of July, the number of Unreal Engine 4 users reached 6.3 million people. Moreover, the company collected the last million in just four months.
  • In the first half of this year alone, the number of active content sellers on the site increased by 30% to one and a half thousand.
  • Since the launch of the store in 2014, 8 million downloads have been made from it. Of these, one million came from Paragon assets, which Epic Games closed this year.

The company itself recalls in an official press release that the Unreal Engine Marketplace is actively used by the gaming community today. It was used in the development of games such as ARK: Survival Evolved and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.
