This year, two Japanese Sega consoles are celebrating round dates at once: Sega Dreamcast celebrates its 20th anniversary, and Sega Mega Drive celebrates its 30th anniversary. On this occasion, the company has opened a new section on the official website dedicated to festive events.
The page contains information about events dedicated to anniversaries. The main one should be the release of the MegaDrive Mini Mini console, which Sega announced in April 2018.
Anniversary section on the Sega website
There is little information about the MegaDrive Mini yet — it is only reported that the device will appear on the shelves in 2018.
Presumably, the release of the retro console will take place in October of this year, since the Sega Mega Drive was first released in Japan on October 29, 1988.
Given the trend set by Nintendo for mini-versions of retro consoles, it is possible that in the future Sega will release a miniature version of the Dreamcast, although there is no direct confirmation of this yet.
