The famous Minecraft game franchise will receive another offshoot — now in the form of a mobile geolocation title. It will be called Minecraft Earth.
Today Microsoft announced a new free-play game with elements of augmented reality. She has a great chance of success. Firstly, the Minecraft franchise itself is very popular and recognized as a global phenomenon. Secondly, the gameplay of the announced game, according to Gamesindustry.biz, resembles another phenomenon — Pokémon GO from Niantic.
Minecraft Earth gameplay contains two main types of activity: exploration and construction.
Players will have to explore the real world to find quests, resources and items for construction. It will also be possible to face monsters from the original Minecraft and start a battle.
In addition, the game provides a classic construction of blocks. It is impossible to update, supplement and destroy other people’s objects created with the help of augmented reality. But you can build them together with invited friends.
Microsoft, which announced the game, touched on the topic of loot boxes: they will not be in Minecraft Earth. But how exactly the title will be monetized, the company did not specify.
The new title will not only have Pokémon GO itself among its competitors. There is also Jurassic World Alive by Ludia, the second most earning geolocation game in the world. Also, another Niantic game is being prepared for release — Harry Potter: Wizard Unite. Its release will take place this summer.
It is not yet known when Minecraft Earth will be released. But soon the project will enter the stage of closed beta testing on iOS and Android. You can already sign up for it here.
