MediaTek is preparing a line of gaming chipsets for budget smartphones. Thanks to this, the latter will be able to support games with high requirements.
MediaTek is an IT company and manufacturer of chips, including the Helio G90 series for smartphones with an emphasis on games. The yet-to-be-announced chipsets refer specifically to it.
Unlike the previous Helio G platforms, the new one is integrated into smartphones of a low price category. MediaTek confirmed that it is working on it, but did not share the parameters. But, as the representative of the company Yenchi Lee noted, the capabilities of the new chips are only slightly inferior to the Helio G90.
The last processor of this series — G90T — was released last year. The Android Authority publication cites a leak that allows you to compare the specifications of the Helio G90T and the future novelty.
- The G90T has 6 Cortex—A55 cores and 2 Cortex-A76 cores. The new chipsets, according to the leak, will have the same 6 cores, but the remaining two are Cortex-A75.
- The G90T has an Arm Mali—G76 MC4 video accelerator with a frequency of 800 MHz, which ensures smooth operation of Fortnite and PUBG. The new project can be equipped with a weaker accelerator — Mali-G52 MS2.
The G90T also supports 64-megapixel cameras, screens with a scan frequency of 90 Hz and up to 10 GB of RAM. The Snapdragon 730 from the competitive Qualcomm has similar specifications. This chip also came out last year and is designed for expensive devices.
While Qualcomm continues to work on chips for smartphones of a high price category (for example, Snapdragon 865), MediaTek has set a course for a budget option for the mass user. But there is a possibility that its new chip, like the Snapdragon 865, will have an update function via Google Play. This will allow you to improve graphics drivers and install patches without waiting for a new update package for the entire system.
MediaTek promises to introduce the new chipset “very soon”. The exact date is unknown.
