The analytical company Newzoo said that starting in June, it plans to regularly publish monthly mobile gaming iOS tops in the United States, China and Europe.
The initiative, in general, is commendable, if not for one “but”. App Annie publishes a similar report every month. Moreover, the latter is not limited to one platform and three regions. Anyway, there are never too few numbers, and App Annie has not yet posted a report for May, so let’s see what Newzoo found.
USA
There is no such information on the slide, but Newzoo assures that of the 20 leading games by revenue in the United States, seven belong to gambling (casino) games. This, however, does not prevent Supercell and King from consistently “steering” the top ten, where each of the companies has three titles.
We pay attention to the presence of the MARVEL Contest of Champions fighting game in the box office top ten. The project has been showing good box office results since its release, but its entry into the Top 10 is a demonstration of the synergy of the strength of the brand, genre and, of course, the capabilities of Kabam itself.
According to the downloads, you can see that the main violin in May in the USA was still played by Crossy Road, and the ancient Flow Free still resonates in the hearts of the audience.
Europe
The box office top of Europe (which countries Newzoo included here is a good question, to which we have no answer) is not very different from the American one. The key difference is that instead of casinos and comic book games, Hearthstone, Minecraft and SimCity BuildIt have a cash register here. In terms of downloads, here, in turn, the hidden Criminal Case from Simple Things dominated.
China
The names of the games from the Chinese tops, in turn, are unlikely to tell you anything. Of the familiar names here, only Boom Beach, which took the eighth position in the box office top in May, and Angry Birds Fight! with Asphalt 8, ranked 5th and 9th in China on iOS by downloads, respectively.
The main player in the market, as it is not difficult to guess, is not King with Supercell, but Tencent, which accounts for 45% of revenues from the cash twenty.
