Marmalade recently announced that their cross-platform SDK already supports the new Google Play game service. However, not yet in full.

To begin with, Google Play Game Services was announced at Google I/O this year. It adds cloud saving, leaderboards, game achievements and multiplayer.

And now Android developers working on Marmalade do not need to integrate it into their game on their own. At least in full, since Marmalade herself did some of the work. However, it was not without “overlays”. At the moment, the engine supports only leaderboards and achievements. The rest, they say, will be later.

Marmalade Technical Director Tim Closs commented on this event: “We are glad that we were able to launch support for Google Play Game Services so quickly.”

Tanya Kobzar, product manager of Art of Bytes, the authors of GRave Defense, who have already included Google Play Game Services support in their Marmalade game, reacted no less positively to the Marmalade update. According to her, the new services will have a positive impact on the games, and will allow players to track the progress of their friends.

Art of Bytes plans to add Google Play gaming services to all of its apps.
