The third version of Leadwerks allows you to develop games in C++ and Lua for iOS and Android. Read about the details of the new engine in our material.

On the market of software mobile solutions today there is plenty to choose from: Unity, Marmalade, Cocos2d-x, Havok, for those who have money and the desire to make three–dimensional games – Unreal. But Leadwerks, apparently, decided that there are not many mobile engines, and presented their own.

Leadwerks 3 is a cross-platform game development solution for iOS, Android, PC and Mac, based on C++. As Josh Klint, the company’s executive director, assures: “This is the first mobile engine that uses tools at the level of modern industry standards.”

He also noted that Leadwerks focuses on C++ developers from studios that produce AAA projects, on those developers of big games who want to use their past experience in creating mobile projects. The company is not interested in those who create games in C#.

Among the features of Leadwerks:

  • the ability to create native applications in C++
  • modular architecture
  • integration with the Lua scripting language
  • built-in script editor
  • built-in level editor
  • easy import of content into the editor
  • own AI

The only problem is that the team of its developers cannot yet boast of mobile projects completed on Leadwerks 3. There are only a few screenshots and videos.

The cost of a basic Leadwerks 3 license is $199. If you want to get iOS support, you will need to pay another $199.
