Game publisher Kongregate has acquired 100% of mobile game developer Synapse Games for an undisclosed amount.

Kongregate assured that Synapse Games will retain creative independence, and the purchase will not affect further cooperation between the studio and the publisher.

Last year, Kongregate published two Synapse Games on Steam — Animation Throwdown and Spellstone.

“Our partnership with Synapse has been going on for over 6 years. We are pleased to attract our team of excellent developers and give them more stability and funding,” said Emily Greer, CEO of Kongregate.

She added that the publisher is ready to help Synapse enter the console market, since so far the studio specializes in titles for PC and mobile.

Greer also said that Kongregate is planning new studio purchases in the future.

Synapse Games specializes in social and collectible card games. Among the studio’s titles, Animation Throwdown, War Metal Tyrant, Castaway Cove and Spellstone can be distinguished.

Synapse Games’ total game downloads total over 18 million, and the total number of gaming sessions for mobile and browser titles of the studio exceeds 1 billion.
