We continue to summarize the results of 2021 together with top managers and experts of the gaming industry (and related ones). Next up is an interview with Robert Bagratuni, the head of Mundfish.
How did 2021 go for the company?
The year 2021 has set a crazy pace from the very beginning. First, Tencent joined our excellent investors Gaijin and GEM Capital. As it turned out, for the Chinese side, this was the first investment in PC/console games from teams with Russian roots.
In June, we signed up with another giant of the gaming market — Microsoft. It’s about our future appearance in the Game Pass.
We also showed up at E3 with a pretty funny video that was made in just 11 days (it was later banned by music trolls, but we fought back through the court).
At the moment, Mundfish closely cooperates with three of the seven largest corporations in the world. We have plans to add two more to this list next year!
This year we held the first Atomic Heart playtests. They gave the most exciting sensations. When you see how people can’t tear themselves away from the game, in which the team has invested so many years of work and energy, it immediately becomes very warm in the soul. It was very nice that Atomic Heart gives people pleasure, that the game gives birth to fire in their eyes.
I am very proud of how the game has grown to the current moment.
Speaking about the results, it is worth noting that we have been growing all year, continued to increase the staff with amazing talents.
What event or trend of 2021 do you consider central within your niche?
Notable events include the preliminary release of the fifth version of Unreal Engine.
Of course, we will see how much new rendering and optimization technologies will affect video games only in a couple of years. However, it is already clear: the level of the picture in movies and games is now the same. The very reality that many filmmakers and advertisers have been waiting for has come. Now photorealistic, indistinguishable from cinema games are spinning on engines in real time.
We are now waiting for neural interfaces and robots.
What will be the stake in the development of the company in 2022?
Extremely interesting things are happening now in the NFT and VR markets.
It is quite obvious that these technologies will greatly affect the gaming industry in the future. We will witness an incredible transformation of the surrounding world. A real, uncompromising “black mirror” is waiting for us.
What exactly to expect? It’s hard to say yet. Even the richest imagination of a science fiction writer can be wrong about the details.
We have yet to see how much these technologies will affect the world around us, hypertrophy it, as well as those who will have time to “jump” on these trends and lead them, thanks to verified tactical and strategic steps.
