SuperData reported for November. According to analysts, gamers spent $9.5 billion on digital platforms last month. This is 7% more than in the same month a year earlier.
The main driver of growth was a 20% increase in mobile games revenue. They accounted for 59% of all digital gaming earnings or $5.58 billion. It is clear that almost all of this amount is generated by freeplay games.
As for the console frituplay, it is not going through the best time. Revenue from console games distributed for free and earning on IAP fell by 41% in November, amounting to only $84.7 million.
The problem is the decline in interest in Fortnite. Despite the decline in popularity, Epic Games remains the main free-to-play game on the console market. It accounts for 51% of all the money that fritupley titles earned on consoles in 2019.
SuperData also said that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order got off to a very good start for the franchise. However, this was reported a little earlier by the publisher — Electronic Arts. As for the digital sales of the game for the whole of November, it amounted to 2.1 million copies. This is twice as much as the Star Wars Battlefront II collected in the starting month two years ago.
Pokemon Sword/Shield for Nintendo Switch has sold out a little more. For the month, total sales of games reached 2.72 million. Thus, this release turned out to be the most successful for Nintendo this year, including overtaking Luigi’s Mansion 3 and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.
But Red Dead Redemption 2 was not doing very well on PC in November. The temporary exclusive Epic Games Store has sold 408 thousand copies. For comparison, in its debut month Borderlands 3 on the Epic platform reached 1.78 million copies sold.
