Nicholas Lovell, founder of the Gamesbrief blog, thought about how the number of downloads of a free game will increase within a year after launch. To answer this question, it is necessary to understand when the title will begin to generate income.
In this regard, it is important to consider two aspects:
- The acquisition of new users depends only on the developer. And it is directly subordinated to what funds the developer is ready to invest in it. Users and downloads will appear when, for example, you launch the CPA mechanism and/or add multiplayer to increase virality.
- The number of downloads does not matter. The main thing is MAU. To strengthen this indicator, you can find new users (expensive and difficult), or save existing ones (difficult, depends on the design solution of the game, but cheap). If the monetization model of your F 2 P-game depends on the number of downloads, you have chosen the wrong path.
According to one of the Ubisoft executives, his team can determine the sales figures of a console title with an accuracy of 1000 units, based on data for the first week of sales.
Do such forecasts work for F 2 P? Lovell does not rule out the possibility of a positive answer. However, so far no one has been able to boast of the ability to make such estimates.
