Two employees of the Australian Halfbrick (Fruit Ninja, Monster Dash, Jetpack Joyride) have opened a studio and are going to release their first project this month.
This summer, Halfbrick lost lead artist Matt Knights and programmer Dean Loades. The guys, who have both worked in the studio for more than six years, decided to make games on their own. In Brisbane (a city on the east coast of Australia), they founded Protostar studio in Dean’s house.
Before they came to the Checkpoint Champion concept, the guys created a lot of prototypes.
The studio’s first game should be released on the App Store this month (the developers claim that they have already received an Apple app). The project is called Checkpoint Champion.
The game is a series of ten-second missions. During this period, the player, controlling the machine (or rather, choosing which way it should be entered, to the right or to the left), will have to pass all checkpoints on the level.
As far as can be judged from the video, visually the game is very similar to the two-dimensional Halfbrick projects, which, however, is not surprising.
It will be distributed according to the free-to-play model.
