Hackers have hacked Capcom — almost 60 GB of confidential data has already been posted on the network

The hacking story began to unfold in early November. Then a group of hackers managed to seize 1 TB of Capcom’s confidential data and demanded $11 million in bitcoins from the company. Later, information about the amount of the ransom disappeared from the criminals’ statement.

In response, Capcom contacted the police. The studio also indicated that users’ personal data remained safe.

A week and a half passed, and hackers really began to leak stolen information into the network. So far, they have shared only part of the data, but stressed that there will be new “plums”.

What the attackers told:

• Google paid $10 million for the release of Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil: Village on Stadia;
• Sony transferred $5 million to the Japanese for the VR mode in Resident Evil: Village and the temporary exclusivity of the add-ons along with the demo;
• Resident Evil: Village will be released in April 2021, and the horror pre-order will open in January. And initially it was reported only about the launch on the PS5, Xbox Series and PC. However, in the leaked files it is also written about the launch on the PS4 and Xbox One platforms;
• Capcom is going to launch a multiplayer project in the Resident Evil universe. It will be called Project Highway or Village Online. Probably, the title will work in the heat of the battle royale;
• Resident Evil 4 may acquire an augmented Reality version and appear on Oculus VR;
• Ace Attorney compilation is being prepared for PS4 and Switch;
• In January and March 2021, the Japanese corporation will release a demo version of Monster Hunter Rise for Switch. The port on the PC will be held six months later — in October;
• at the same time, the PC launch of Monster Hunter Stories 2 will take place in June 2021, simultaneously with the release for Switch. The title will receive single, cooperative and PvP modes. Paid DLC, free cooperative quests and Amiibo support will be released later;
• The unannounced title Guillotine will launch for Switch in February, and for PS4, Xbox One and PC — in May;
• Also in May, Capcom plans to launch another new project, which will be called Reiwa;
• but an unannounced multiplayer shooter called Shield will be released only in 2022, although its demo will be available next September. It is assumed that its main audience will be streamers;
• Separately, hackers published the source code of Devil May Cry 2 and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles.

It is worth noting that some of the information is taken from old company files that date back to 2018. Capcom’s plans may have changed since then.

Capcom has already confirmed the data leak. The corporation apologized for “any concerns and complications that arose during the incident.” According to her, both employees of the company and clients together with partners could suffer — criminals got access to hundreds of thousands of personal files.

Capcom once again recalled the ongoing investigation and announced the tightening of the security policy on the servers.
