The creator of the music games Harmonix fired 14 people. The company explained this by the need to reduce overhead costs. This is the second reduction in the studio staff this year.
“We made a difficult decision. We are very grateful to our colleagues for their contribution to the work of the studio and we will take care of their future after leaving the company,” the official statement on the Harmonix website says.
The layoffs occurred less than a month after the launch of the latest Harmonix game, a DropMix DJ simulator that requires an NFC—enabled smartphone and a special game panel.
In February 2017, the studio cut 17 people. In total, Harmonix has reduced its staff 5 times over the past 4 years.
Harmonix is known for the music games Rock Band, Guitar Hero, Dance Central and others.
