GREE International, a subsidiary of the Japanese GREE, will have branches in Germany and Australia. The company will thus “expand its presence in the West.”

The Gamesindustry resource writes about this with reference to an interview with the director of GREE International for production, Andrew Sheppard.biz

The representative office in Germany will take over marketing operations in Europe, customer service, localization of games, QA. Priority areas of development will be not only the markets of Western Europe, but also the markets of Russia and Turkey.

The Melbourne office will be based on the Twiitch mobile game studio (not to be confused with Twitch), which GREE acquired shortly before. The department will develop technologies for “a new generation of GREE games,” according to Sheppard.

Twiitch Studio specializes in games for hardcore and midcore audiences. She, in particular, developed a strategy in the spirit of Clash of Clans – Heroes of War. The studio was acquired precisely because of its specialization. The midcore and hardcore direction will become a priority for GREE International, says Sheppard. In addition, the company will focus on franchise projects.

Recall that last week GREE International laid off 30% of its staff – 120 people. The cuts only affected offices in San Francisco. Andrew Sheppard said that the purpose of layoffs is to optimize the company.

Earlier, GREE International applied similar measures to the Vancouver branch. The goal was called the same, that is, optimization of production.
