The publisher of Modern War and Dragon Soul announced the dismissal of an unnamed number of employees of the company’s branch in San Francisco.
The publisher explained that the cuts are due to “increased development efforts for international markets.”
“These are difficult times, it’s never easy to say goodbye to the wonderful people who have made GREE an amazing place. We thank all those affected by the reduction and wish success in future efforts,” the company’s official statement reads.
The news of the reduction arose against the background of the growth of quarterly sales of the parent company compared to the previous quarter. Fourth-quarter sales totaled $133.7 million and profit reached $13.1 million. Gree noted that the costs of maintaining the office and staff in San Francisco continues to grow, and the publisher is forced to look for more budget solutions to continue working.
Gree International is a foreign division of Gree, a developer and publisher of mobile games from Japan. The company has created such titles as Modern War, Crime City, and Dragon Soul.
