On April 9, the analytical company App Annie published results on global downloads and revenues for the first quarter of 2018. According to the data, both indicators continue to grow. One of the growth factors is games.
Downloads
Global cumulative downloads on iOS and Android in January-March 2018 amounted to 27.5 billion. This is 10% more than a year earlier.
Most of it came from Google Play. 19.2 billion copies of programs were downloaded from it in three months. The share of the App Store is the remaining 8.2 billion.
The report noted that in the first quarter of 2018, there was a significant increase in game downloads compared to the fourth quarter of 2017. He was associated with “monumental changes in gaming”: the hype around games in the genre of battle royale.
User expenses
The expenses of users in the App Store and Google Play in the first quarter of 2018 reached $18.4 billion. This is 22% more than last year.
The annual growth for iOS was 20%, and for Android — 25%. In particular, thanks to this, the difference between the revenues of Google Play and the App Store has reached its minimum since 2016.
If Google Play continues to outpace the App Store in terms of dynamics (including quarterly), the Apple app store will cease to be the most interesting mobile platform for game launches in the foreseeable future.
