Mobile game development is a high—risk business. The Belarusian-British publisher Gismart has announced a new model of cooperation with third-party development teams, which, according to the company, will partially solve the problem for partners.
The essence of Gismart’s solution is as follows: the publisher does not expect a concept from the partner, but offers him his own, which has a potentially low CPI and high metrics for user retention.
“Every month we test about 400 game concepts, getting dozens of promising game concepts with a CPI below $0.10-$0.15 and a good potential for high metrics for user retention. Our partners will have access to these game concepts, which will allow them to focus on creating a profitable game with high-quality production,” explains Lana Meisak, Director of Business Development and Marketing at Gismart.
As part of the partnership, Gismart is ready to partially finance the development of such projects. After the project is implemented, the development team will receive a share of the profits and a bonus if the work is done at the agreed time.
The publisher has certain requirements for future partners. The developer must have:
- portfolio of successfully implemented projects;
- formed a team consisting of a producer, a game designer, Unity developers and 2D/3D artists.
Especially for App2Top.ru Gismart has highlighted several aspects of the new publishing scheme.
What will the whole cooperation process look like for a third-party team?
Gismart: We provide a game concept that showed good metrics on tests. The studio considers it and, based on its product experience, offers a specific implementation. This is being discussed with the producer from our side. If there is a consensus, then the studio starts developing. As soon as the first version of the game is ready, we test it on CPI, Retention and LTV (pre-soft launch). If Retention, LTV results are suitable (this is where the studio needs to show the result), we do several iterations to increase metrics, launch it into softlanch and lead to a global launch.
The press release says that you are ready to cover part of the development. Can you reveal?
Gismart: We are ready to cover the costs of creating an “extended” prototype, which we will test on Retention and LTV. If the studio works with us exclusively, then we are ready to consider a monthly coverage of the costs of maintaining the team. Everything is discussed here.
The question about guarantees. You are both a publisher, an investor, and in some way a customer here. At the same time, the development team itself is also invested and it wants some guarantees that it will repel its investments if something does not work out.
Gismart: Here, we are partners rather than customers. Just as a partner, we reduce the risks of failure on the project by providing tested game concepts with good results, as for an experienced studio, it does not chase a working idea, but immediately works on creating an exciting gameplay, the right balance, high-quality art, properly working monetization.
