The initial circulation of Final Fantasy VII Remake in Japanese retail reached 703 thousand copies. This is slightly less than the number of copies of Final Fantasy XV sold in Japan in its first week.

Final Fantasy VII Remake
The Japanese magazine Famitsu published the retail sales chart for April 6-12.

This week saw the release of the PS4-exclusive Final Fantasy VII Remake — on April 10. It turns out that in just three days it sold 703 thousand physical copies in the country.

How much is that?

If we compare it with Final Fantasy XV, then the remake of the seventh part fell a little short. FF XV for the first week of sales in Japan sold 716.6 thousand copies for PS4 and another 3.3 thousand for Xbox One. That is, in total, almost 720 thousand copies were sold at retail on the release.

However, it is worth noting that the 15th Final Fantasy was released on Tuesday. She had six days to achieve such sales, while Final Fantasy XII Remake has only three.

If we compare it with other PS4 games, the launch of the remake in Japan was the third in retail circulation.

  • Monster Hunter: World holds the lead in the chart with sales of 1.3 million copies per week, according to VGC.
  • The second is Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age with 950 thousand copies sold at the start. Both of these games were released at the end of the week.

Let’s add that Final Fantasy VII Remake comes out in parts. On April 10, the first one was released, which contains part of the plot and locations of the original 1997 game.
