At GDC 2019, Epic Games announced the launch of the Epic MegaGrants investment program. As part of it, she is going to financially support the Unreal Engine user community. In total, the company is going to invest $ 100 million in teams.

Epic MegaGrants is the ideological heir of another Epic Games initiative. The Unreal Dev Grants program was completed just this week. Over the five years of the latter’s existence, grants totaling $5 million have been allocated.

The new program will work in a similar way. Epic Games will regularly allocate certain amounts to various projects (both gaming and educational, artistic, architectural, and so on).

The key difference Epic MegaGrants from Unreal Dev Grants is that the grant amounts will be larger. Previously, the “fork” of the grant was from $ 5 to $ 50 thousand. However, now the upper value has grown to $ 500 thousand.

Another important innovation is that not only those who work on Unreal Engine 4, but also teams developing open source 3D solutions will be able to receive a grant.

Epic Games does not claim the rights of those who will receive grants, nor does it restrict them in choosing a site for product distribution.
