The CEO of Unity believes that the company’s engine is popular today not only among mobile developers. He stated that half of the game projects for all platforms are developed on Unity.
John told about this during his speech at the TechCrunch Disrupt IT event, which is taking place in San Francisco this week. According to him, the share of products on Unity, of course, differs from site to site, but in general, 50% of game products are behind the engine.
“More than half of all mobile games are created on Unity. About 60-70%, it depends on the device, everything that is created for VR and as AR, too. A little more than half of the games for the Nintendo platforms are on Unity. A little less than half of the projects for Xbox and Sony are also on our engine. All together, it’s even more than half of the games,” says Riccitello.
The main reasons for the success of the engine, John called the friendliness of the toolkit to developers and monetization. Recall that gaming companies do not pay a percentage of sales for using Unity, they subscribe to every employee who works with Unity.
