Sony Corporation allowed to connect the DUALSHOCK 3 from the PlayStation 3 to its own Android smartphones of the Xperia series.
Let’s start from afar.
There are no problems with management in mobile games. More precisely, this problem is artificial, it is caused by laziness or lack of imagination. Perhaps both at once. You just need to develop projects that are fundamentally different in UI and gameplay from those that we are used to playing on consoles. Then there will be no need for touch sticks, numerous touch buttons covering half the screen and similar things.
And you also have to control the camera here
Unfortunately, not all developers understand this. Moreover, a generation of players has grown up for whom playing a shooter or platformer with the help of this kind of crutches is already the norm. However, they also understand that it is far from “console amenities” here.
So, against the background of porting console titles to mobile platforms (GTA, Max Payne, Ms. Splosion Man), as well as the emergence of original brands ideologically close to console blockbusters (Modern Combat, Shadowgun), there was a demand for physical gamepads for tablets and smartphones.
For those who wanted to play Android games on TV
The success of the campaign to raise money to create Ouya demonstrated that this demand is real. It got to the point that even Samsung presented its version of the game controller for Galaxy smartphones, rumors about similar Apple plans began to spread.
And now, when there is very little left before the future, in which users immediately buy a controller with a new smartphone, Sony woke up. The company demonstrated that a PlayStation 3 gamepad can be connected to the new Sony Xperia SP device via Bluetooth. For the first connection, however, a USB-OTG cable is required, but then it can be discarded.
The company has not yet announced the appearance of such a feature for other smartphones, but most likely it is a matter of time.
We, in turn, are tormented by the question: why is it taking so long? By announcing such support from the very beginning, Sony would have killed initiatives like Ouya in the bud. By positioning compatibility with DUALSHOCK 3 with its Android mobile gadgets, Sony would have strongly stimulated an increase in sales. But this did not happen. However, it’s better late than never.
