The Walt Disney Company announced the imminent closure of its title cross-platform game series Disney Infinity (and the production of toys for it), as well as the complete abandonment of self-publishing games for consoles.
As part of the restructuring, Disney is also closing the developer studio Avalanche Software, which was engaged in the creation and support of Disney Infinity. In this regard, about 300 people will lose their jobs.
Before sending the series “to retirement”, two additions will be released to it.
The closure of the series is explained by the drop in sales of Disney Infinity after the success of the first part.
The company plans in the future only to license to other studios the use of its IP in the development of console games.
