One of the central players in the Western three-in-a-row market, SGN, recently announced the purchase of two companies: Fat Rascal Games and Kiwi.

SGN CEO Chris DeWolfe, also known as the co-creator of the MySpace social network, explains the purchase with a desire to remain in the lead.

In his commentary for the Los Angeles Times, he noted that in the next 10 years, revenues from the entire mobile games market will be controlled by 10 companies. It will be very difficult for others to compete with them.

According to Chris, to get into the top ten, you need a very large portfolio of games. Therefore, now the company, famous for Cookie Jam and Panda Pop, is not only preparing six new projects for release next year, but is also interested in buying companies whose portfolio and expertise will expand SGN’s capabilities, bring it to new genre territories.

It is unknown how much SGN paid for Fat Rascal Games studio, which previously released Poker Heroes, and Kiwi studio, known for Westbound and Shipwrecked: Lost Island. Both companies have increased the SGN team by 40 people in total.

By the way, taking into account the portfolio of purchased companies, SGN plans to do farms/builders and something midcore.
