After three years of development on mobile platforms, the War Commander: Rogue Assault strategy from Kixeye has been released. The creative director of the project was one of the creators of Command & Conquer.
Initially, Louis Castle, who together with Brett Sperry founded Westwood Studios, was accepted on the project as a consultant. After he gave feedback, he was invited to take up the game,” VentureBeat writes.
The key difference between War Commander: Rogue Assault and most mobile strategies is the lack of timers. In the game, the user pays to save time on the grind.
The gameplay resembles Clash of Clans, but the player can control each unit individually, and PvE missions differ from PvP, in which the player attacks the bases of rivals.
A team of 50 people worked on the project.
Kixeye are veterans in the market of fritupley strategies. Until recently, they primarily focused on developing games for the web. Founded in 2007, the studio is known for the project Backyard Monsters. It was her basic mechanics that Supercell borrowed when creating Clash of Clans. Today, the main projects of Kixeye are Battle Pirates and Vega Conflict.
Louis Castle worked at Westwood Studios for 18 years as an operations director. After its closure in 2003, as part of Electronic Arts, he became vice president of the creative department of the latter, where he worked until 2009. After that, he also worked at Zynga.
