Game designer Chris Avellone said that the presentation of the plot in the Doctor Who series is great for computer game scenarios.

“I realized that the development of the plot in the style of “Doctor Who” is well suited for games. You throw the player into an environment with a bunch of visual puzzles, and at first they don’t quite understand what’s going on around. Then you let them explore the environment and solve riddles,” Chris Avellon said.

Avellon added that curiosity is the best motivation for a player. He was convinced of this by many examples from games, both computer and desktop. According to Chris Avellon, nothing so occupies the attention of a gamer as the need to constantly look for answers, simultaneously learning new details of the story.

Chris Avellon’s name is associated with the classics of computer role-playing games: in Interplay, he worked on Fallout 2, Planescape: Torment and Icewind Dale, then became one of the co-founders of Obsidian Entertainment, where he participated in the development of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, Neverwinter Nights 2, Fallout: New Vegas and others.

Today Chris Avellon is working on a story for System Shock 3 studio OtherSide.
