The total revenue of games from the iOS platform in China is greater than in any other region of the world, including the United States.
According to the results of the second quarter of 2016, China overtook the United States in terms of gaming revenue from the iOS platform, according to the analytical company App Annie. And, as far as can be judged by the charts, it has overtaken solidly. From now on, the Celestial Empire is the most profitable region of the world with mobile games for iOS.
The top of the Chinese box office top falls on local titles. They are also responsible for the growth of the market. App Annie highlights three leading projects among them: Fantasy Westward Journey, Westward Journey Online and Hero Moba. The first two are MMORPG, the last one is MOBA.
But this does not mean that only national projects can achieve success in the Chinese market. Clash Royale is an example of this. The Supercell game took 10th place in the box office Chinese gaming top for the second quarter of 2016.
For reference: in total, three countries are responsible for 75% of the gaming revenue of the Apple mobile platform: China, the USA and Japan.
But in her report, App Annie touched not only on gaming topics. We would like to mention four more points that we considered significant and interesting.
Firstly, Google Play still lags behind iOS in terms of revenue. According to App Annie – twice. The App Store, in turn, is two times behind Google Play in downloads.
Secondly, the most dynamic regions in terms of the growth of mobile downloads on iOS and Android are India and Vietnam. Indonesia and China should also be noted. The first takes the top place in the world in terms of download rates on Google Play, the second – on iOS.
Thirdly, in terms of revenue growth from Google Play, Russia ranks third in the world (we are talking about the difference between market revenues for the second quarter of 2015 and revenues for the second quarter of 2016). Whether to be proud is an open question, since Kuwait is in the same third place in the world in terms of revenue from the App Store.
Fourth, it is traditionally interesting to look at the position of countries in the world in terms of total downloads from both platforms.
Again, all figures are relevant for the second quarter of 2016.
