Linear gameplay is no longer as popular with players as it was 5 or 10 years ago, according to Electronic Arts CEO Blake Jorgensen. He said this at the last Credit Suisse media conference in Arizona.

The loss of relevance of linear gameplay Jorgensen explained the decision to close the Visceral Games studio in September.

Recall that EA closed the Visceral Games studio, which was working on an action adventure in the Star Wars universe. It was assumed that the basis of the game would be a linear campaign with a strong plot. After Visceral closed, the project was given to another studio for total processing.

Blake Jorgensen added that EA had big plans for the upcoming project, but it would not be economically feasible to release it in its original form.

Note that Jorgensen says controversial things: popular and commercially successful games with linear gameplay continue to come out. This year, Resident Evil 7, NieR:Automata, Persona 5 and other projects became an example of such titles.
