BioWare is losing frames. General Manager Casey Hudson and Dragon Age executive producer Mark Darrah are leaving the company.

Casey Hudson

Hudson worked in the studio for about 20 years. Hudston did not name the exact reasons for leaving BioWare, nor did he tell about specific plans for the future.

“2020 has forced us all to rethink our understanding of life and work,” Hudson explained. “I realized that I still have a lot of creative energy, but I also need to direct it to something else. I’m not sure what it will be yet, but I know I want to rediscover my passion for creativity through more personal work.”

At BioWare, Hudson was at the helm of many high-profile games, including the Mass Effect trilogy and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

This isn’t the first time Hudson has decided to leave BioWare. He did this in 2014 for the post of creative director at Microsoft, where he got a job in 2015. Two years later, Hudson returned to the studio, replacing Aaron Flynn.

Mark Darragh

Darra spent 23 years in the studio, most of which he was the executive producer of the Dragon Age franchise. Like Hudson, Darra did not tell about the motives for his own dismissal, nor about his future plans.

“It was a very difficult decision for me,” Darragh wrote. “The team of wonderful Dragon Age developers made my life much better. They taught me a lot. I know that without me, Dragon Age will not just survive, it will thrive.”

Mark DarraghWhat will happen to the studio and projects?

Christian Dailey will take over the leadership of the next Dragon Age, and Matthew Goldman will remain the creative director of the franchise. Remasters of the Mass Effect series will also continue to be handled by Mike Gamble.

A new general manager for BioWare has not yet been found, so this position will be temporarily transferred to Gary McKay, senior Director of Operations.

Despite the departure of industry veterans, BioWare intends to release new Dragon Age and Mass Effect on time.
