Ubisoft and their game Assassin’s Creed: Unity will not be able to help in the restoration of the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris. It turned out that the virtual copy of the cathedral from the game is not as accurate as the media and players hoped.

Le Monde has denied rumors that Ubisoft’s developments will be used in the reconstruction. Initially, the media presented this as an idea, but then fake information spread online, allegedly the Paris Mayor’s office would really resort to Ubisoft’s help.

The expert interviewed by Le Monde, CEO of Life3D Cedric Gachaud, is sure that Ubisoft recreated the real cathedral too freely. The placement of Notre Dame in Assassin’s Creed: Unity was done by artists with access to photographs and general plans of the cathedral, not by reenactors. Therefore, the model of the cathedral contains an artistic fiction that is unacceptable in real reconstruction.

If they (the authors of Assassin's Creed) have a statue two meters taller than the real one, it's not so important for them. We, in cooperation with engineers and analysts, achieve accuracy to the millimeter.

Cedric Gesho

CEO of Life3D

Note that Life3D has already developed an exact model of Notre Dame. When restoring the cathedral, 3D laser scans of the cathedral will be more useful than a game model.

Gasho’s opinion was shared by historian Maxime Durand — by the way, the current employee of Ubisoft Montreal. In an interview with La Presse, he confirmed that Notre Dame in Assassin’s Creed: Unity was created with artistic assumptions.

Nevertheless, Ubisoft does not want to stay on the sidelines and is ready to help the restorers at least financially. She donated 500 thousand euros to the restoration of Notre Dame. She also offered players a free PC version of Assassin’s Creed: Unity so that they could study a copy of Notre Dame.

Recall that the real cathedral was damaged in a fire on April 15.
