The British company ARM bought out Geomerics, a company engaged in real-time lighting modeling. Why would a chip corporation need such an acquisition?

The price of the transaction is not disclosed. Pocketgamer reports that Cambridge-based Geomerics will become a full-fledged ARM division, but will continue to work independently. Geomerics Enlighten technology is used in many well-known games, including Battlefield 3 and Eve Online. The company also cooperates with developers of games for iOS/Android devices.

“Thanks to Geomerics lighting technologies, artists will be able to create a truly realistic picture by simulating the most complex lighting effects in real time on various platforms,” says Chris Doran, Director of Geomerics.

It is assumed that cooperation with ARM will allow Geomerics to accelerate the development of new solutions for consoles and mobile platforms. In addition, specialists will receive detailed information about the functioning of hardware platforms, which will give a huge advantage in work. In the future, the developments will significantly improve the graphics in mobile games.
