Apple has announced a review of its policy regarding the commission in the App Store. The company will reduce it to 15% for those developers who earn less than $1 million per year.
Earlier, the commission for all was 30%. Now this share will be paid only by the wealthy by the standards of the “apple” giant of the team.
“The savings that have appeared will allow small businesses and developers to invest more in the development of their business, hire employees more actively and create new, innovative opportunities for application users,” Apple said in a press release.
The innovation will come into force on January 1, 2021. What share will be deducted from the teams will be decided based on the results of their sales by the end of 2020.
Apple stated that it chose $1 million as the threshold value, because it is when it is reached that applications usually begin to grow rapidly. If developers start earning less than a million a year again, only 15% will be charged from them again.
Apple took a similar step against the backdrop of a lawsuit with Epic Games, which even formed a coalition against it together with companies such as Spotify and Match Group. Among the key problems of Apple, the coalition highlights the high commission of the App Store. They say that 30% of user payments is a lot. The members of the association believe that such a percentage makes it difficult to compete with Apple’s own services and leads to an increase in the cost of digital products.
