The Apple Store has started to reject applications that advertise their price in the name, icons, screenshots or previews.
If a developer tries to send a request for verification containing the word “free” in the name of the application, he will receive an error message.
The company explained that the price is not considered part of the metadata, and therefore cannot be included in the name of the application, icon, screenshots or previews. Instead, Apple suggests developers highlight prices and discounts in the app description.
Apple has been working on cleaning up its store since last year. In September 2016, the company began removing apps deemed “problematic and abandoned.” Later it turned out that almost 50,000 apps were removed from the App Store this month — 238% more than the average monthly removal from the store.
