In the American App Store in game subcategories (Action, Adventure, and so on) instead of the lists generated by the robot, editorial collections by genre appeared.
TechCrunch journalists were the first to pay attention to this, noting the disappearance in the subcategories of the lists New, What’s Hot, All iPhone (Free & Paid) and so on.

Now, instead of lists of players, there will be a unique genre feature: a set of large banners on top, a list of the best new games, a list of the best hits of all time, a list of free games and two rows of small banners.

Unfortunately, there is no such thing in the Russian App Store yet.
Editor’s note: In our opinion, this is a very correct and important step on the part of Apple, which will partially solve the problem with garbage, which previously quite successfully passed through the algorithms of the App Store. Until now, there wasn’t much point in climbing into subcategories at all. There were mostly those games that had everything good with ASO, but bad with everything else. Now the game subcategories will begin to enjoy attention. Players interested in specific genres will visit them and download exactly what they are interested in. However, we have yet to find out how effectively getting into a feature in a subcategory will affect downloads.
P.S. As TechCrunch also reports with reference to its sources, some developers have faced a reduction in organic traffic by 30-90%.
