App Annie studied the mobile market and stated: in the first half of 2020, gamers spent 20% of the time spent on games for royal battles. At the same time, mobile battle royals accounted for only 3% of downloads.

The analytical company made such a statement at the PGC Helsinki Digital conference. In the same place App Annie noted:

  • 50% of all time mobile gamers spent on the top 1000 hardcore games (according to MAU);
  • Hyper-casual games were downloaded 5 billion times in the first six months of 2020.

Recall that according to Sensor Tower, the top five mobile battle royales — PUBG Mobile, Garena Free Fire, Call of Duty: Mobile, Knives Out and Fortnite — generated a total of $7.5 billion in revenue. And the highest—grossing of them — PUBG Mobile – earned $500 million in the last two months alone.
