There are major developments in Activision Blizzard. The company has removed its president and concurrently chief operating officer. A Google veteran has been appointed in his place.
Collister “Coddy” Johnson has been president since June 2017. And just at this time, the publisher noted a number of controversial decisions. The last two years were remembered for the dismissal of 800 Activision Blizzard employees, the failures of the Blizzard division, Bungie‘s departure, a drop in revenue and audience.
Nevertheless, the head of the publisher Bobby Kotick in his statement does not say why Johnson was removed. The cat thanked him for his outstanding contribution and “the impact on the company and me personally,” writes PC Games Insider.
Coddy Johnson is not leaving Activision Blizzard yet. He will be assigned to the position of special adviser to the executive director. In this capacity, he will stay at the company until June 30 — on this day his employment contract will expire. Johnson’s fate is still unclear.
Who will replace Johnson?
On April 7, Daniel Alegre will become President and Chief Operating Officer of Activision Blizzard. This is a native of Google with extensive management experience.
Daniel Alegre
Alegre worked at Google for 16 years.
For several years, he led the giant’s work in the Asia-Pacific region. 10 years later, he rose to the head of Google’s global business in the field of trade and payments. He moves to Activision Blizzard from this position.
The publisher will assign him a base salary of $ 1.3 million (the amount can double due to bonuses) plus another $ 2.5 million (Alegre will return this money if he wants to quit prematurely). He will also receive stock options in 2022 and 2023 if the company under his management reaches the targets. The total amount of options is $5 million.
“I was deeply impressed by Daniel’s entrepreneurial talents and his extensive experience in achieving global growth in a rapidly changing industry,” said Bobby Kotick. It also follows from his words that Alegre first of all has to “prioritize” the company and attract new employees.
The contract with Alegre will be valid until March 31, 2022.
