Blizzard will be left by Michael Morhaime, its co—founder and former president. As it became known from Blizzard documents, on April 7 he will leave the post of strategic adviser.
Morheim became a Blizzard consultant last year after leaving the presidency. Then he said that it was time to transfer the company to another person. The reins of power passed to Jay Allen Brack, previously executive producer of World of Warcraft.
The real reason for his resignation, according to rumors, was the new order in Blizzard. They were installed by Activision. According to Kotaku editor-in-chief Jason Schreir, Activision requires Blizzard to release games more often and forces it to cut costs as much as possible. And Morheim, as a number of Blizzard employees noted, was less interested in the company’s financial problems than in the affairs of subordinates.
Mike Morheim founded Blizzard in 1991 with Allen Adam and Frank Pearce. For more than 20 years, Morheim has been at the head of a company that has become one of the most successful in the industry during this time.
Almost simultaneously with the news of Morheim’s final departure, it became known that the Bungie studio had terminated its cooperation with Activision. Bungie also took the rights to the Destiny series. These news led to a sharp drop in Activision Blizzard shares. Before the opening of trading, the securities fell by 5%.
