Last week, Superdata published the document “Trends and Analysis of the Games and Interactive Media Market”. One of the slides of the 19-page presentation contains ratings of the most profitable games of this year.
Analysts shared three charts – one top for each platform (PC, console and mobile). The leader in revenue among games from all platforms was League of Legends from Riot Games, also leading the ranking of the most profitable games on PC.
The largest cash register this year on consoles earned the game FIFA 17. Honorable second place – for Grand Theft Auto V.
According to the results of the first half of the year, the MOBA from Tencent – Honor of Kings, which has not yet been released in the west, received the most on mobile platforms.
In addition to the table with ratings of games by revenue, Superdata shared a forecast according to which the earnings of the gaming industry this year for the first time will be more than $ 100 billion. This will happen partly due to the growth of the interactive media segment, where analysts include sales of VR and AR software, as well as earnings from gaming video and esports.
According to the sales schedule of console games, segmented by content type, by the end of this year, developers will earn more on additional content than on the sale of the games themselves. However, Superdata is confident that this will not last long.
In addition to these data, the report reports that:
- the number of active mobile users by the end of the year will amount to 2.9 billion;the largest digital gaming platform by revenue is mobile;
- 46% of American players are women;
- the number of game video viewers in the world is 665 million;
- the revenue of the VR segment by the end of 2017 will amount to $3.7 billion.
