Not everyone is ready to accept the end of Flash in 2020. A group of enthusiasts is working on an open source Flash emulator. It was named Ruffle.
According to the developers, Ruffle will play Flash elements in the browser. An extension is also planned that will detect and automatically reproduce Flash components on old sites.
The authors have another important function in their plans. Ruffle wants to adapt to modern smartphones. That is, it will be possible to play Flash games even on a touch screen.
Note that the first versions of Ruffle will only work with animated Flash content. Interactive will also be supported later, according to Eurogamer.
The project has been underway for several months. It is headed by Mike Welsh. This is the author of the Swivel converter, capable of translating Flash content into HD video. He and his team hope to save the generation of Flash games, while Adobe is preparing to turn off this multimedia platform.
The creators of Ruffle did not plan to disclose their plans until the fall, but there was a leak. After that, the development of the emulator was officially announced in the Newsgrounds community. By the way, it will be one of the first to introduce Ruffle technology into its website.
