To be aware of what is happening in the Chinese mobile market, you need to know what Tencent is doing right now.
This Internet giant is a leader in the Chinese online PC games market and is gradually gaining more and more influence in the mobile games market.
Marbridge Consulting claims: the reason is that the company has attracted more than 600 million mobile game users on the platform of messengers QQ and WeChat (or Weixin in China).
Compared to the previous year, the time spent by users in the game increased by 44%, the number of entries increased by 104%, and the number of games that support this gaming platform increased by 117%.
What’s next?According to some estimates, Tencent is still at the very beginning of its journey.
So far, only 24 mobile games have been implemented on the platform of popular messengers. Of these, 21 projects ranked first in the Chinese App Store.
Marbridge quotes Wang Bo, vice president of Tencent Games, who said that the volume of the Chinese mobile market will increase to $6 billion (37 billion yuan) by 2015.
For comparison, according to analysts at Niko Partners, the market value will be $2 billion in the first half of 2014, that is, it is unlikely to exceed $4 billion in 2014.
Bo claims that Tencent promised to share $500 million in revenue (3 billion yuan) with his developers, although he did not specify what the total amount of revenue would be.
Thanks to its influence in the market, Tencent will receive a much more generous portion of revenue than it could in North America or Europe.
Tencent is one of the largest Internet companies in China. Founded in 1998. Among its developments are the messengers QQ and WeChat, whose total MAU is more than 1 billion. Tencent accounts for 30% of China’s mobile market.
