July will be remembered as one of the most eventful months of 2026. Steam set another record for the number of releases, Nintendo dominated the Japanese charts, and a whole slew of mid-budget projects and indie games sold hundreds of thousands of copies. More details in our traditional column.
The games discussed in this article include:
- Revenue, sales, and other metrics of July's biggest releases: Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, Splatoon Raiders, Rhythm Heaven Groove, Palworld version 1.0, and others;
- Data on indie hits and notable new releases: Shift At Midnight, Mistfall Hunter, DragonSword: Awakening, Tears of Metal, Pass the Fear, and more.
To assess sales, revenue, and other metrics, we relied not only on official data from developers and publishers but also on information from third-party sources. These include Steam charts, as well as data from analytics companies like Gamalytic, GameDiscoverCo, and Sensor Tower (VG Insights). All the figures mentioned in this article cover the period from each game's release date to July 31, 2026.
Last month saw the release of 2,549 new titles on Steam, a 36% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Of these, 386 (15%) are games with included profile features (cards, badges, etc.) that surpassed a certain minimum threshold in terms of revenue and user count.
The 2,549 games set a new absolute record for the number of releases in a single month in the history of Steam. The previous record was set in March 2026. Interestingly, more projects (14.7 thousand) have launched on the platform in the first seven months than in all of 2023 (14 thousand). Given these trends, 2026 is expected to be another record-breaking year for this metric.
- All July releases collectively brought in over $160 million.
- 93 titles earned more than $100,000, and the gross revenue of 22 projects (0.86%) exceeded one million dollars.
- 25 releases sold over 100,000 copies, and more than 100 surpassed the 10,000-copy mark.
- Of all the new releases in July, 305 received more than 100 reviews, and 70 projects exceeded 1,000 reviews.
