Since 2009, the percentage of women working in the gaming industry has doubled, the IGDA (International Association of Game Developers) reports in its latest study.
Curiously, of the remaining 78%, only 76% recognize themselves as men.
50% of developers earn less than $50,000 a year, 33% earn from $50,000 to $100,000, 19% earn more than $100,000 a year.
The average developer has been working in the industry for about 9 years, managed to work on 16 projects and changed about four employers over the past five years.
The main reason why the majority of respondents work in the industry is “to make a living doing what I like” (41%). 61% of respondents said to continue playing games. The main reason for leaving it is to improve the quality of life (39%).
