The Pokemon Company Corporation, mainly engaged in the development and promotion of the label of the same name and affiliated with Nintendo, announced a mobile match-3 with Pokemon.
The novelty is called Pokémon Shuffle Mobile and is a port of the shareware Pokémon Shuffle project, which was released on the Nintendo 3DS this February. The game is rather a battler with a root match-3 mechanics, rather than the traditional ideological heir of Bejeweled.
Making gems in a row, in the role of which Pokemon act here, does not just bring points, but causes damage to opponents – other Pokemon. Moreover, the player forms his own squad of big-eared sympathizers, based on their strengths and weaknesses, and then pumps and develops them.
The game can be called a casual version of Puzzle & Dragons or, what is closer in terms of the target audience, an analogue of Best Fiends.
The game has been downloaded 4.5 million times on the Nintendo 3DS. Given the popularity of the brand, at least as many downloads are waiting for it on mobile platforms.
In general, the announcement of Pokémon Shuffle Mobile, which will be released later this year, of course, cannot be perceived as a demonstration of Nintendo’s new policy, an unambiguous change of course. This is rather a cautious experimentation, which also currently affects only a very young title, which was originally made with an eye on mobile hits.
So exactly what step Nintendo will take after the release of Pokémon Shuffle Mobile on iOS and Google Play is still an open question, the answer to which will undoubtedly affect the entire industry one way or another.
