The number of players in the Rainbow Six: Siege multiplayer tactical shooter has exceeded 30 million people. This is reported by the publisher of the game, Ubisoft.
The last 5 million people have come to Siege in the last 4 months.
The company does not specify whether the 30 million users who installed the shooter are included in order to participate in the free weekends that Ubisoft spends from time to time to promote the project.
The company also noted that Rainbow Six: Siege continues to gain popularity as an esports discipline. 321 thousand people watched the games of the Six Invitational 2018 tournament at the same time this year. This is a record in the history of the title.
Recall that Rainbow Six: Siege was released at the end of 2015.
The game uses a hybrid monetization model. The basic version of Rainbow Six: Siege costs $15, but players can buy a season pass for extra money, which gives earlier access to new content.
According to the analytical service GitHyp, during the first year of the online project, I hardly recruited a little more than 10 thousand players per hour.
But due to the release of a large update in February 2017, combined with free weekends, the active audience of the project has grown dramatically to 65 thousand people per hour.
This allowed Rainbow Six: Siege to break into the Top 5 Steam games for the first time by the number of online players.
In March 2018, the game set a new record, simultaneously collecting 176 thousand people online on Steam.
