The Long Dark survival simulator from the Canadian indie studio Hinterland reached 1.3 million copies sold by the official release, and the producer of the Resident Evil film franchise, Jeremy Bolt, took over its adaptation.
In April of this year Hinterland reported about 750 thousand copies of The Long Dark sold. To date, they have managed to increase this number almost twice.
Simultaneously with the sales data, it became known that they were going to make a movie about the game. The script of the future picture will be written by the founder and creative director of Hinterland, Raphael van Lierop, who previously worked on Company of Heroes, Far Cry 3 and led the development of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine.
The authors of the future tape based on The Long Dark describe their creation as “a post-apocalyptic story with a Canadian flavor, which echoes the spirit of such works as “The Road” and “The Walking Dead”.
The game The Long Dark as part of early access on Steam was released in 2014. Its full release took place today, August 1, 2017.
Unlike The Walking Dead and many other survival simulators, there are no zombies in The Long Dark. The heroes of the game are fighting for life with wild winter nature in a world where electricity has disappeared.
