Sales of the RimWorld space colonists simulator by the independent studio Ludeon Studios exceeded 1 million copies. The alpha version of the game was released in 2013, and since 2016 it has appeared in Steam early access.
RimWorld creator Tynan Sylvester admitted that he did not expect such popularity of his project.
When Sylvester released the game in 2013 thanks to funding from Kickstarter, he managed to sell a little more than 1 thousand copies to the participants of the crowdfunding campaign.
According to the creator of RimWorld, while working on the game, he was inspired by the spirit of the space western from the science fiction series “Firefly” and roguelike-the Dwarf Fortress strategy, famous for its complexity and detailed study of the game world.
In 2016, RimWorld was released on Steam Early Access. Since its appearance on Steam, the game has collected 16.8 thousand reviews, with 97% of gamers giving it the highest rating.
By now, RimWorld has entered the beta testing stage. The last update of the game was released at the end of November last year.
