In the wake of the success of Among Us, other developers began to implement its mechanics. The first of the major companies was Epic Games, which added a similar “Spy, get out” mode to Fortnite. The launch of the temporary regime became known on December 15.
Its rules and mechanics make it clear that the developers were clearly inspired by Among Us.
- At the beginning of the match, the players only know their role and do not know the role of other participants. The role of spies goes to two players.
- They must kill the others unnoticed until the team has completed all the tasks.Eight other players become agents who must hunt down the spies together and vote against them at a special meeting.
- The meeting can be started by any player who has found a body or suspects another participant in the match.
- Players are not allowed to use voice chat outside of meetings.
- For completing the “Spy, Get Out” test set, users receive exclusive gifts like New Year’s music and a skateboard skin.
In December, Fortnite hosted a record-breaking online event with Galactus, and an update with support for 120 frames per second mode on consoles was released for the game. In November, the company also announced the launch of a monthly subscription.
Among Us has become one of the most unexpected hits of this year. The number of downloads of the game on mobile devices alone exceeded 200 million. Probably in the future we will see the use of its mechanics not only in clones, but also in projects of other major developers and studios.
