While the developers of Among Us are in no hurry to localize the game into Chinese, its clone called Werewolf Among Us has become the most downloaded mobile title in the country. Werewolf was released in China on October 28 and soon topped the free games chart in the local App Store.

According to the analytical company Qimai Data, on Monday the clone Among Us was downloaded 116 thousand times, and the total number of installations reached 478 thousand.

This allowed the game to bypass the popular Tencent titles, which for a long time occupied the first lines. For comparison, on November 2, the mobile hits Honor of Kings and Peacekeeper Elite had 112 and 111 thousand downloads, respectively.

The development of Werewolf is handled by the Shenzhen Youliang Technology company. The only difference between the project and Among Us is the setting — instead of a space station, the action takes place in a medieval castle.

The original Among Us is available in China on Steam, the App Store and third-party Android stores. Despite the fact that the game has been downloaded 885 thousand times over the past three months, the lack of localization has prevented it from becoming truly popular in the country.

As a result, this gave rise to many clones, the most successful of which was Werewolf. “If there is a translation into Chinese, any game similar to Among Us will gather an audience, regardless of how terrible it may be,” notes Zheng Jintiao, co—founder of the GamerBoom website.
