Electronic Arts re-activates microtransactions in the online shooter Star Wars Battlefront II. This was confirmed by the company’s management.
EA CEO Andrew Wilson mentioned the return of microtransactions in a report to investors following the results of the 3rd quarter of fiscal year 2018.
The company recognized the negative role of the scandal due to the loot boxes on the sales of Star Wars Battlefront II. According to Wilson, it was a learning experience. But EA believes that additional digital monetization in the game gives gamers more opportunities. Therefore, the publisher promises to return this mechanism, having worked it out for the needs of the players.
On the eve of EA CFO Blake Jorgensen told reporters that sales of Battlefront II amounted to 7 million copies out of 8 expected. The top manager added that by the end of the 2018 fiscal year (it will end on March 31), the publisher expects to sell from 1 to 3 million copies of Battlefront II.
For comparison, the first part of Star Wars Battlefront 2015 edition by the end of the fiscal year (that is, by April 2016) sold 14 million copies.
